Chapter 33 Snippet: What Do You Think Chris Is Doing?
“Can I get a Cuban sandwich to go?” Chris asked.
“Sure thing, sweetie.”
She turned and called out the order for the man in the back.
The grill sizzled as the cold meat landed on the hot surface.
The nervous man rose from the booth and walked out of the diner. A bell above the door dinged as it opened and closed.
The waitress brought a paper bag over to Chris and set it down. She slid his tab next to him.
“You can pay when you’re finished.”
The second man at the booth rose from the booth. He threw down a few bills and walked to the door to leave.
Chris pulled out two twenty-dollar bills. She waltzed back to him and grabbed the money.
“Keep the change,” he said.
“Well, thank you,” she said with a wide grin.
He stood up, grabbing his bag, and made his way outside right behind the man.
Chris watched him walk across the dim parking lot to a ragged truck that was parked a few spots down from his.
Just as the man reached for the lock with his key, Chris walked up behind him.
“Hello, Westbrook,” Chris said.
Your turn. What do you think Chris is about to do?
